Petra: Then and Now

Founded in 1987, Petra Engineering Industries Co. facilities originally spanned 3200 m2 and incorporated old-fashioned machinery. A small line of HVAC equipment was manufactured that mainly targeted the Iraqi and Kuwaiti markets. The broader vision was to produce a wider variety of HVAC equipment that meet a diversity of application requirements and to export to major worldwide markets. The execution of successful corporate and business strategies to this effect soon took Petra to great heights and enabled them to begin competing with long-established companies.

By 1994, Petra expanded its line of HVAC equipment utilizing some of the industries most advanced machinery and raw materials to achieve the highest quality standards. Their equipment was quickly gaining recognition in over 20 countries worldwide. To handle the increasing demand for their products, the facilities were expanded and the technology of the products was continually improved.

By 2001, Petra was designing and manufacturing a large array of quality HVAC equipment to suit all commercial and industrial applications. Their strategic finesse and exceptional products enabled them to enter the US market. Being one of the most competitive and challenging markets, the US symbolized a major milestone of success for Petra. With dedicated drive, Petra continues to export to the US and over 35 countries worldwide.

Today, Petra Engineering Industries Co. is a market leader as a designer and manufacturer of sophisticated, high quality commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. The company has grown significantly and today has a facility that is over 300,000 m2 with more than 1000 highly competent technical and managerial employees. Petra will persevere in doing the utmost in terms of innovation and quality achievements to continue providing its customers throughout the world with the comfort and value they expect.

To ensure the highest level of quality, all procedures are carried out according to the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. Petra’s products are UL and/or ETL Listed and most recently, Petra obtained ARI certification for the forced circulation air-cooling and heating coil program for its air handling units, PAH series. Since Petra started its operations, it understood that unless it could provide better products at competitive prices, it would not be able to succeed in the marketplace. Petra firmly believes that 100% continued customer satisfaction is necessary to sustained growth in the marketplace

Petra is a market leader as a designer and manufacturer of sophisticated, high quality commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. Petra offers its customers dexterous solutions in energy efficiency, ultra-low noise, high standards of air quality and custom-made technology that sets new standards in the HVAC industry.

Petra offers a wide range of products including chillers, air handling units, rooftop package units, fan coil units and self contained (water source) units amongst others. All of Petra’s products are designed with the client’s requirements as the focal point. Petra’s products are available with different environmentally refrigerants including R407c and R134a. Additionally, Petra has the ability to produce custom units with sophisticated hardware and software options.
Petra’s delivery times range from 2 to 8 weeks (Ex-works), enabling it to compete successfully with other manufacturers. Petra’s short delivery times are ensured by a large stock of raw materials and major components. Petra’s main suppliers include ABB and GE for electrical components; ABB VFDS; Alfa Laval for heat exchangers; Bitzer and Copeland for compressors; Carel and ALC for controllers; Danfoss, Refrigeration Research, ALCO, Parker and AC&R for refrigeration accessories; Honeywell and Belimo for electrical accessories; Baldor and GE for motors; Nicotra, Comefri, Twin City and ACME for fans; American Air Filters; Amber Booth for spring isolators; Sterling for gas heaters and Carel for self contained steam humidifiers amongst others.
